The Battlefords Stars weren’t able to complete a sweep in Swift Current against the Legionnaires this past weekend.

The Stars dropped the second game Sunday by a 4-1 margin, after winning the Saturday contest 4-2.

Tristan Carey got the first goal for Swift Current in the first period, and Matthew Jones added a second goal in the first minute of period two.

Tanner Brewster’s power play goal in the middle of the second period from Dawson Bacon and Brandon Griffiths made it 2-1, but that would be all the scoring for the Stars.

In the third period, Jones got his second of the game with 6:08 left for insurance, and then Carey scored into the empty net with 1:52 remaining for a 4-1 final score.

Jake Taylor stopped 20 of 23 in net for the Stars, and was named Battlefords’ star of the game. Thomas Martineau was named the home star of the game for Swift Current having stopped 28 of 29.

The next action for the Stars is Saturday, again on the road, in Yorkton against the Maulers.
