The Battlefords AAA Stars scored four unanswered goals to down the Blazers 4-2 in Saskatoon Tuesday night in the Stars' final pre-season game.
Saskatoon opened the scoring seven minutes into the first period on the power play. Gage Ramsay beat Stars goaltender Brett Pongracz. Jake Leschyshyn picked up an assist on the goal.
In the second, Ramsay scored his second power-play goal of the evening to put the Blazers up 2-0. Leschyshyn and Reese Johnson were given assists on the goal.
With 4:12 left in the second period, the Stars cut the lead in half. Jared Hillis put the puck past Joel Gryzbowski with an assist from Owen Lamb.
The Stars found the equalizer with 6:06 remaining in the game. Lamb scored on Gryzbowski from Hillis. Less than three minutes later, the Stars took their first lead of the game. Layne Young tallied an unassisted goal to put the Stars up 3-2. Brandon Lesko added an empty-net goal for the Stars with 1:04 remaining in the game.
Pongracz stopped 18 of 20 shots to pick up the win for the Stars. Gryzbowski made 30 saves for the Blazers in the loss.
The Stars finish their exhibition schedule with a 4-1 record.
The games begin to count Friday night when the Stars host their SMAAAHL home opener Friday night at the Civic Centre against the Regina Pat Canadians. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m.
The two teams play again Saturday afternoon in the Civic Centre at 2 p.m.
