The Battlefords Midget Stars were in Moose Jaw on the weekend hoping to keep their slim playoff hopes alive against the Generals, but that wasn't the case.

Moose Jaw swept both games on the weekend with 6-3 and 12-4 scores while going 8/12 on the powerplay.

Saturday, the Stars started the scoring with Blake Young finding the back of the net four minutes into the game. Colby Cave and Jeff Olson had the assists on Young's 15th of the season.

Dylan McIntosh scored on a powerplay later in the first and 44 seconds later, Colton Schick put the Generals in front 2-1. Cory Millette scored on a powerplay late in the first period and Moose Jaw led 3-1 after 20 minutes.

Nineteen seconds into the second, Regan Yew scored his third of the season from Ryne Keller. Young tied the game with Garrett Zelinski and Cave setting him up four minutes later.

The game stayed tied until three minutes remained in the second when Schick scored on a powerplay. Tyler Mueller added a goal for Moose Jaw in the third and Austin Daae hit the empty net to seal the win.

Regan Santoro suffered the loss after making 23 saves.

Matt Gibney was credited with the win while he played 39 minutes of the game. Travis Pelletier started the game and was replaced by Gibney.

Young, who leads all Stars' rookies in goals and points ,was once again named the team's game star. He earned that honour in four previous games.

Sunday, Moose Jaw put a lot of pucks at the net, scored a lot of powerplay goals and ultimately scored a lot of goals on their way to a 12-4 win.

Santoro and Mahon split the goaltending duties and while both faced over 20 shots it was Mahon suffering the loss after playing 35 minutes.

Daae scored a hat trick in the first period while Millette and Austin Yano added singles putting Moose Jaw up 5-0 heading into the first intermission.

Keller got the Stars on the board four minutes into the second, as Olson drew the assist. Millette scored for Moose Jaw, but that was followed by Olson's 16th goal of the season. Kyle Oleniuk, Yano and Hunter Smith scored for the Generals later in the second and the Stars trailed 9-2 heading into the third.

In the final period, the Battlefords were out scored 3-2 and lost 12-4. Millette and Yano completed hat tricks while McIntosh added the other Moose Jaw tally.

For the Stars, Olson took the team scoring lead with his 17th of the season from Cody Thiel.

Keller netted his second of the game and seventh of the season from Garrett Zelinski to end the scoring and claim the Stars' player of the game honour.

The Generals were 5/7 on the powerplay while the Stars were 0/2 on the day. Moose Jaw also out shot the Stars 51-20.

The losses drop the Stars to 10-28-1-1 and officially out of the playoffs, as they can't catch the eighth place Yorkton Harvest who have a 16-18-2-3 record.

The Stars played their final home game of the season Tuesday against the Saskatoon Contacts at the Civic Centre. They will complete their regular season schedule Saturday in Saskatoon against the Contacts, Sunday in Saskatoon against the Blazers and Feb. 17 in Prince Albert.
