The Stars incredible second half run has now come to an abrupt end. After losing game two, 2-0, the Battlefords travelled to Regina for game three and to settle the opening tilt of the series.

Not much went right for the Stars Tuesday night, coming out on the wrong end of a 6-0 game.

Regardless of the outcome, this team has to be proud of how this season turned out, coming back from the basement of the SMAAAHL to make the playoffs is a great feat in a tough league. The young team has tremendous promise for the future, and would have finished in seventh if it wasn’t for the improbable run from the Beardy’s Blackhawks. Time to recharge the batteries if you are a member of the Stars, and build on a successful year from a team littered with quality rookies.

Tyler Lees opened the scoring in the first period for Regina with back-to-back goals. Jake Heerspink drew the assist on his first goal before Fraiser Belanger and Tanner McKechnie collaborated on his second.

It wouldn’t get much better in the middle frame, as the Pats tallied three more, making it 5-0. Lukas Sillinger added the final nail in the coffin in the final 20 minutes with a goal from Carson Denomie and Ryan Roberts.

After all was said and done, the teams played their overtime period from game one, which a chance for the Battlefords to cut into the series lead. Regina continued to play well in the extra frame, completing the sweep of the Stars, and will now move on to the second round of the SMAAAHL playoffs.
