Give him the trophy again.

Scott Thompson of St. Walburg was out on the course July 20 to 23 for the Amateur Men's Championship in Saskatoon and he dominated the field winning his second championship trophy in two years.

Thompson finished four rounds at the Willows Golf and Country Club with a -16 and two stokes ahead of Jesse Gibson, the next best golfer. Thompson was in contention after his first two rounds with a 70 and 69, but it was his third round that cemented his spot on top of the leader board. Thompson fired a tournament best 62 and put himself at -15. Thanks to the 62, a competition course record, Thompson carried a six-stroke lead into the final day. He was able to hang on and finished with a 71 on the final day to claim the championship for the second straight year.

The last golfer to win back-to-back Saskatchewan Amateur Men's Championships was Graham DeLaet of Weyburn in 2005 and '06. Since then DeLaet has earned his Professional Golf Association Tour Card and is in his rookie season on the PGA Tour.

Former Saskatchewan Junior Men's Champion Tim Acaster also placed well at the Amateur Men's Championship last week, as he finished in eighth. Acaster shot three 71s and a 73 during his third round to finish two under par.

Another local area golfer, Thomas Weikle, of Cut Knife also made the cut and was tied for 37th with a +13 (78,72,74,78).

Nine other Battlefords golfers didn't make the cut for the final round, as the mark to match was +8. Those included Dwayne Johnston, who was the closest at +14, David Curniski, Riley Tyndall, Tyler Wilson, Taylor Cook, Graham Campbell, Tim Sletten, Cory Bru and Darrell Kopp.

In total over 150 golfers took to the course during the first three rounds and that number was cut down to 41 golfers for the final round.
