TISDALE — The Tisdale Trojans have a familiar face in a new position and have added an experienced coach to its staff.
Tisdale’s Rob Pollon is the U18 AAA team’s new general manager. Trevor Logan of Porcupine Plain has joined as an assistant coach. His previous experience included serving as an assistant coach for the Junior A Melfort Mustangs and being the head coach and general manager of Junior B Carrot River Outback Thunder. In addition, the Trojans staff returns head coach Dennis Kubat, assistant coach Gavin Brandl and trainer Chris Garland.
“I think the program has a great path forward that they intend to execute on, as well as good people in place to do that,” Logan said. “I think it’s possible we will also have some fun along the way.”
Pollon was a Trojans assistant coach for three seasons before moving into the general manager role.
“I am really looking forward to working with Dennis and the coaching staff to build a winning product that the community and surrounding area have grown to expect and support,” Pollon said. “We have a lot of returning players and some very talented 15-year-olds coming in that are going to contribute this season.”
As GM, Pollon takes over for hometown product Cole Simpson. As a player, Simpson was part of the Trojans’ Air Canada Cup U18 AAA championship team. He became the team’s general manager in the spring of 2019.
“Cole Simpson did a great job as GM the past few seasons, and I hope that I can continue that work ethic and help the coaches to move this group of players to the next level,” Pollon said.
Logan brings a diverse hockey resume to the Trojans. He has played at the Junior B and senior AAA levels, among others. As well, Logan has coached at various levels, including being on staff with the U15 AA North East Wolfpack with Kubat.
“Trevor brings experience in all levels,” Kubat said. “[He’s] a guy who is knowledgeable in all areas, a guy who really cares about and wants the best for his players.”
Logan has spent parts of the past three seasons with the Mustangs. Logan is looking forward to working with the Trojans.
“I think overall I am just excited to get an opportunity to stay in the game at a high level, and to have it be closer to home,” he said. “It definitely doesn’t hurt that I’ll be joining a great organization, with strong history in the northeast, and a strong vision for the future of the program.”
He feels his coaching and playing experience can benefit his youthful charges.
“I think life in general just teaches you lessons the longer your around…life and sport,” Logan said. “I think the time I spent in Junior A and Junior B will offer some insight that would be helpful, hopefully I can pass that along.”
Logan has coached at the U18 level before. He actually got his start on the bench coaching that age group in Lloydminster. Logan also has coached the Porcupine Plain U18 squad in the past. Logan is looking forward to working with Kubat again and is excited for the future of the Trojans.
Spring Camp
The Trojans recently held their spring camp. It drew 75 players ranging in age from 2005 to 2008 to Humboldt. Kubat said he was pleased with high-end talent and the compete level demonstrated at camp. “We are excited about next season and are working hard to finish out our roster and can’t wait to get started on next season,” Pollon said.
