The North Battleford Beavers were up against strong teams in the Bantam AA Provincial tournament over the weekend.

The boys had the tournament's two best teams in their pool, which contributed to their 1-2 finish.

Game one was Friday against the Swift Current Indians, who finished second. The Beavers might have had some nerves as the host team in the highly competitive tournament as they lost 15-1.

"That's a tough start because we should have beat them," said Gary Nolin, the team's manager.

The Beavers started Saturday morning's game much stronger. The boys had a three-run lead on the Muenster Red Sox, the eventual champion, but weren't able to hold on. They ended up losing 7-5.

Now with two losses, the team was up against Weyburn, and they pulled out their lone victory of the tournament 10-5.

Unfortunately for them, it wasn't enough to move on.

"There were very excellent teams in the whole thing," said Nolin. "Not many mistakes, if you made a mistake, you were done."

While the result might have been disappointing, there was no shame in losing to the best teams in the tournament. The finals saw Muenster beat Swift Current 12-3. Both teams are now advancing to the AA Westerns in Swift Current from Aug. 15-18.

Meanwhile, the Beavers season was finished with the end of the provincials.
