Taylor Trach, a Gutters mainstay, recently won the provincial open five-pin championship in the singles category in Regina, in addition to his team placing first.

Trach said he’s the first bowler from North Battleford to win both singles and team, and the first North Battleford competitor to win singles in 27 years.

Trach said it felt “awesome.”

Nationals are next for Trach, and the competition will take place in Abbotford and Surrey B.C. from May 27 to June 2.

Strategically, Trach aims for the middle of the lane, but every pin counts.

The women’s team representing the Prince Albert region recently missed going to nationals by five points.

Trach said his father got him into bowling, and “now it’s my turn,” he said.

Trach helps coach kids at Gutters once a week.

This isn’t Trach’s first News-Optimist appearance. In 1997, he won a gold medal at the Youth Bowling Council Four Steps To Stardom provincials, which also took place in Regina.
