The Lloydminster Twins took first place away from the Border City Blue Jays last week in NSRBL action.
The Twins and the Blue Jays renewed their rivalry June 12, with the Twins edging the Blue Jays 2-0. Twins pitcher Chris Osmack scattered six hits over seven innings with four strikeouts to pick up the win. Blue Jays pitcher Jason Fechter also pitched a complete game in the loss, striking out seven. Cole Kustaski led the Twins' offence going 3 for 3 with two doubles.
Lloydminster kept their undefeated season alive with a 3-3 tie after 12 innings played in Wilkie against the Brewers. David Schell pitched all 12 innings for the Brewers and struck out 13 batters. Evan Latos went 10 innings for the Twins and Kevin Payne pitched in relief for two innings pushing the game to a tie.
Dirk Trepto went 4 for 6 with a double and two RBIs for the Twins. Steve Barbeur also knocked in a run for Lloydminster. Nick Pernitsky, Cody Wilgenbusch and Ryan Cey drove in a run each for Wilkie.
Twins vs. Flyers
In other action June 12, the Macklin Lakers downed the visiting Mervin Flyers 7-2. Sean Carrick went the distance on the mound for Macklin, striking out 12 batters to earn the win. Cole O'Hare earned the loss for the Flyers, giving up six earned runs in six innings pitched. Derrick Lantz sparked the Lakers' offence, driving in three runners with two hits. Dustin Gartner had two RBIs, while Dylan Deck and Corey Doetzel had one RBI for Macklin. Jordan Macnab and Jesse Bannerman each drove in a run for the Flyers.
The Brewers edged the Midwest Expos 7-1 in Wilkie June 12. Mike Sittler gave up six runs - only two were earned - over seven innings to get the win for Wilkie. Dion Forget gave up six earned runs over five innings in a losing cause for the Expos. Ryan Cey went 2 for 3 with three RBIs for the Brewers. Ricky Cey drove in two, while Pernitsky and Sittler had one RBI apiece. Aaron Chrapko was the standout offensively for the Expos, going 2 for 4 with a RBI and three stolen bases.
The Meadow Lake Sox were involved in two games over the weekend, both on Saturday.
In their first game, Meadow Lake won 11-4 on the road in Wilkie against the Brewers. Brett Mitchelmore pitched seven innings, giving up four runs and scattering seven hits for the win. Robert Cey picked up the loss after allowing seven earned runs over five innings.
Quincy Winkler went 2 for 4 with RBIs to lead the charge offensively for the Sox. Kevin Gerwing also knocked in two runners for Meadow Lake. Mitchelmore, Craig Weran and Shawn Irwin each had one RBI. For the Brewers, Robert Cey, Wilgenbusch, Ryan Cey and Ryne Keller drove in a run each.
Meadow Lake then travelled to Unity and suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Cardinals.
There were four games Tuesday night. The North Battleford Beavers downed the Brewers 11-1 in Wilkie. It was the Beavers' third win in four games. In Mervin, the Flyers were beat 16-2 by the Lloydminster Twins. The St. Walburg Reds picked up their first win after they edged the Unity Cardinals 6-4. The Border City Blue Jays lost their second straight game after falling 6-2 to the Meadow Lake Sox.
In the standings as of Wednesday morning, the Lloydminster Twins (7-0-1) sit in first place with a one-game lead over the Meadow Lake Sox (7-2). Border City (6-2) fell into a third place tie with the Midwest Expos (6-2). In fifth, the Unity Cardinals (3-2) are the final team with a winning record.
Standard Hill (2-3) are four games back of first place, followed by North Battleford (3-5). Edam (2-4) is in eighth place, followed closely by Macklin (2-5). Wilkie (1-5-1), Mervin (1-5) and St. Walburg (1-6) round out the bottom three teams in the league.
