The Unity Midget Panthers went undefeated this season and repeated as league champions with a 10-2 victory over the Battleford Bantam Bandits.

Not only did the Unity Midget Panthers go into Wednesday night's Battlefords Ladies' Fastball League game with the chance to win the championship, they went in with the chance to do it without losing a game all season.

The only thing standing in the way was the Battleford Bantam Bandits.

The Panthers wasted no time as they scored three runs in the first inning to give them an early 3-0 lead going into the second inning, which went by scoreless for both teams.

Battleford went down quietly in the top of the third inning, unable to put a dent in Unity's lead. The Panthers, however, made some noise in the bottom half of the inning. They added three more runs to push the score to 6-0.

The Bantams showed life in the fourth. The ladies scored two runs, but they were outdone. Unity came out in the bottom half of the inning and showed what made them so dominant all summer as they put up four more runs.

With the 10-2 Unity lead, Battleford needed at least two runs in the top of the fifth to keep the game from ending early. Once again, the Panthers got strong pitching combined with solid defence and shut the Bandits out in the inning.

Unity flooded the Battleford Flats to celebrate an incredible season. It was a familiar feeling for the Panthers - they won the league championship last year, too.

Unity wasn't the only team with a championship on the line. In the other game Wednesday night, the Survivors were taking on the Maidstone Iron Maidens for the B division championship.

The game was close until the fifth inning when the Iron Maidens' offence erupted. They went on to win the game 20-8 in a hard fought battle against a Survivors team that just ran out of steam late in the game.

The ladies' fastball season has come to an end after a summer full of exciting, close ball games. They will be back in action next May.
