Wadena, Kelvington, Strasbourg junior teams collect District titles

The roads weren't great outside, but the ice conditions and the competition inside were right on track. The Horizon Central Athletic Association (HCAA) held their 2011 Junior Curling District Championships in Lanigan February 4-5.

The roads weren't great outside, but the ice conditions and the competition inside were right on track.
The Horizon Central Athletic Association (HCAA) held their 2011 Junior Curling District Championships in Lanigan February 4-5.
Boys
In the boys' category, teams from Muenster, Wakaw, Strasbourg, Lanigan Elementary School (LES), Wadena, and Humboldt competed for the District title.
In the first round of games, Wakaw defeated Strasbourg, while LES lost to Wadena. Wakaw then defeated Muenster, while Wadena defeated Humboldt. Wakaw then beat Wadena to win the A side.
On the B side, Humboldt defeated Strasbourg, while Muenster defeated LES. Humboldt then beat Muenster to meet Wadena in the B-side final. Wadena came out on top of that meeting, to face Wakaw again in the A-B final.
Wadena beat Wakaw in two games to win the District title in the boys' category.
Girls
In the first round of girls' action, Archerwill lost to Strasbourg 1, Humboldt beat Lanigan High School (LHS), and Strasbourg 2 defeated Watrous.
In the next round, on the A side, Strasbourg 1 beat Humboldt, while Kelvington defeated Strasbourg 2. Kelvington defeated Strasbourg 1 in the A final to head to the championship game.
On the B side, Lanigan defeated Archerwill, then beat Strasbourg 2. Humboldt beat Watrous, but then lost to Lanigan. In the B-event final, Strasbourg 1 defeated Lanigan to make it to the championship game against Kelvington.
Kelvington came out on top in that game, winning the girls' District title.
Mixed
In mixed play, Imperial defeated Young, then lost to Englefeld, while Strasbourg beat Muenster in the A event. Strasbourg then beat Englefeld in the A final.
On the B side, Muenster defeated Young, Imperial, and Englefeld to win the event.
Muenster's winning streak came to an end though in the championship game against Strasbourg. The Strasbourg team, of skip Chad Cardiff, third Carly Erhardt, second Josh Gottselig, and lead Kaleigh Sorensen claimed the mixed District title. Strasbourg was coached by Lorne Gottselig and Lorne Hilderman.
