The 19th annual Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament took place Monday at North Battleford Golf and Country Club and perhaps to the surprise of no one, it was a success once again.

“It was amazing,” said Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation executive director Claudette McGuire. “The weather was wonderful, the whole day was a lot of fun and we had a huge banquet as well. We had a full roster of 216 golfers with a waiting list of 20 people.”

There were multiple prizes available for various milestones throughout the day including closest to the pin and longest drive.

For the past six years the foundation has recognized a member of the community who has the same traits as Wayne did, strong community support and support of their family.

“This year we recognized Ed Lee,” McGuire said. “Lee owns the M&M Meat Shops in North Battleford and he has been the banquet sponsor for, I would say, the past 15 years. He feeds 240 people every year.”

While they don’t have all the numbers quite yet, McGuire is confident this year’s event raised just as much money as previous years.

“We budget to raise about $28-30,000 with this tournament, and I would suspect we’ll easily come within that,” she said. “I do know our raffle tickets and 50/50’s came out to what we expected, and we’ve committed to buy three new microscopes for the Battlefords Union Hospital laboratory.”

Anyone hoping to get in for next year's tournament might want to get their entry as soon as possible.
