Dear Editor
I admire U.S. President Obama and all he has done for our neighbours to the south. However, his comments about Russia occupying Crimea during his "wrong side of history" speech sounded terribly hypocritical, especially his comments about respecting international law and Russia not putting soldiers on the ground unprovoked.
This is the president of the United States speaking. You know, that country that in 2003, under George W. Bush, did to Iraq what Russia is doing to the Ukraine. Remember that President Obama? How the United States clearly in violation of international law invaded another country. Remember how, just like Russia has started a huge propaganda campaign to justify its actions, George W. Bush and friends had told us hundreds of times about Iraq's links to Al-Qaeda and weapons of mass destruction.
Just like Russia in Crimea, the United States said it was protecting the citizens of Iraq. We all should do something to help the people of Ukraine, but I don't think President Obama can show moral indignation as he does so. His country has been there, done that.
