Dear Editor
I am writing in regards to the Amazing Race that took place July 1 at the fairgrounds. I cannot believe the things people are saying about it. It was the first they had organized anything like this and of course there are going to be mistakes. Volunteers not showing up for some of the legs of the race meant those venues weren't ready when the teams arrived. Therefore the first team there had to wait, so it was only fair that the rest of the teams had to wait the same amount of time when they arrived before they could start the task.
There are also rumours going around that the race was "rigged." I cannot believe that some of the teams would think this. How can you rig the race when all the teams had to complete the same tasks at each leg of the race? Each team had to cope with setbacks and obviously some of the teams didn't cope very well. Some of the tasks took a toll on some of the teams, but they persisted and got through them. They were in it to win it and they weren't going to give up.
If the ones who are complaining had won, it would be a different story. I also cannot believe that some of these teams are demanding their entrance fee back. I have heard that everyone is getting their entry fee back, except for a few teams I know of who do not want it back, and I don't think this is right.
Does this mean that if you pay an entry fee to be part of something and you lose, you have the right to get your money back? You entered this race knowing full well there could be only one winning team and you took your chance.
I would also like to thank the organizing committee, because for a first-time event it went as well as could be expected. Of course there are going to be things that don't go as planned but we all learn from our mistakes.
