Dear Editor
One Sunday recently I needed to be in Saskatoon no later than 11 a.m. My kids called to say, "the roads are terrible, we'll worry about you driving. Please take the bus. It's so easy."
So, I needed to take the earliest bus - 6:05 a.m. And, the sign says you must be there an hour before departure. Since I'm a law abiding person, I usually obey signs. And no, I couldn't find out from home that the bus would be late.
The bus depot was closed, but the taxi driver was kind enough to let me and another passenger keep warm in his car until he got another call. Then we were out in the open. The bus was one and a half hours late.
We treat animals better than that. If I put my cat out with no shelter for an unknown amount of time, somebody would call the SPCA and rightly so. But for humans, it's OK.
Any small towns I know, the bus stops somewhere you can keep warm while you wait. But North Battleford is, what, a city? Oh!
There will be a tragedy out there sometime. It's just a matter of when. Some elderly person will fall, be unable to get up and freeze to death or something like that.
