Dear Editor

People often complain about the poor customer service they receive at North Battleford businesses and sometimes I must agree. This time, however, I want to share with you a positive customer service experience that I had with an employee at the Leisure Time Center at the Battlefords Co-op. Our local Chamber of Commerce used to run a program called Star Quality Service, but it is no longer active, so I am taking this opportunity to tell all of you about this man.

Alex, who works in the back fixing bikes, goes above and beyond his job description to ensure the customer feels like they received more than good value for the service.

On a recent Tuesday, my husband brought my bike to Leisure Time at the Co-op because I had a wheel problem. He was told it would not be ready before Saturday at the earliest. I can tell you, waiting for a week for your bike in our short prairie summers can feel like an eternity. On the Saturday I thought I would go and see in person if my bike was ready. I was hoping it would be, and it was! This was only the second time in two years that my bike was ready when promised. And both times, the worker was Alex.

Alex has a way with customers that ensures the customer first understands what the problem is, and then explains what he did to remedy the situation. He also offers suggestions on how to stop it from happening again.

What he allowed me to do was ride my bike in the back parking lot so that we could discuss the repair, and I had a chance to try it out, saving me a trip back if I didn't like the repair or if the bike still needed something else. He just wasn't going to let me go before we were both satisfied with the outcome. I really appreciated the time he took with me to talk about my riding preferences and how to get the most out of this particular repair.

Alex obviously enjoys his job and speaks highly of his other co-workers at leisure time.

I know that I sure appreciated the extra time he took with me to fully understand my issues with my bike. I will continue to bring my bike to the Co-op for any work as long as Alex works on it!

While I was thinking about my experience with Alex at Leisure Time this quote by Jeff Mowatt came to mind: The Customer is not an interruption to our work, but the PURPOSE of our work.

Alex's attitude and work ethic exemplifies this. Thank you Alex!
