So who is tired of this cold and this winter?
If you did not jump up and down and say “Oh! Me! Me! Me!” then you are a better man/woman than I.
Having lived in Saskatchewan for three winters now I can honestly say I got to experience what Saskatchewan natives affectionately refer to as a “Saskatchewan winter.”
The first two winters I was here I would say ‘boy, is it cold,’ to which I would hear back ‘oh, just you wait.’
No more waiting, it happened.
And boy can I not wait for it to be over.
It seems I may soon get my wish too.
For those who are with me in jumping up and down, Environment Canada is reporting some good news for the months ahead.
And for those who were sitting quietly angrily mumbling about me under their breath, I selfishly say sorry, not sorry.
If you enjoy the cold you had your fun.
If you can call three straight months of -30 C fun.
For some perspective, I was listening to Saskatoon’s Rock 102 the other day and they had an environmentalist on.
He noted that in the month of February there were nine days recorded which featured temperatures in the -40’s with the wind chill.
That is three times higher than our average for February.
Wow.
Now to the good news, or the bad news depending on which side of the fence you sit on.
According to an article written by CBC, Canadians east of Saskatchewan can expect a warm and dry spring, while we can expect seasonally average temperatures.
This is great news for those who are sick of the -30 C weather.
According to Environment Canada the average temperature for this time of year is approximately -5 C.
I can deal with that.
After living through -30 C, sometimes -40 C, for three months, this -5 C is going to feel like beach weather.
Well, maybe not, but it will definitely be much nicer.
Of course, the warmer weather does mean snow, as we learned over the weekend.
And generally I would welcome a little snow, but we got a little more than a little.
Just ask my car, which is buried in snow and stuck in my driveway.
But, this storm could mean good news.
What do can we always count on in March?
A snowstorm.
So the optimist in me says, it’s March and we got our snowstorm.
That should mean we are free.
Knock on wood of course.
Good weather is coming.
And not a moment too soon.
Bring on warm weather and no snow.
This winter has gone on long enough.
