Facility a legacy for the future

Dear Editor I support the concept of the multiplex and am pleased construction has begun. In a perfect world, many more sources would have financially contributed and we may not have had to borrow as much, or work so diligently at fundraising.

Dear Editor

I support the concept of the multiplex and am pleased construction has begun. In a perfect world, many more sources would have financially contributed and we may not have had to borrow as much, or work so diligently at fundraising. Be we live here, in the Battlefords, and it is February 2011.

Note too, that we are not unique. Our community's multiplex debates have a strong resemblance to other community debates in Canada and the united States.

So, here we are in early 2011 with construction forging ahead with the performing arts centre and the aquatic facility. We say, "great!" We need all those facilities and so we must complete the job by constructing the field house and curling rink.

North Battleford city council has recently signaled their abiding support for the construction of all four components. We expecte, but also appreciate that kind of leadership. When councillors will actually speak out loud, on the record, in support of a project that some will continue to criticize, that is leadership in action and big picture thinking. It would be tempting for councillors to speak in a manner that those critical members of the public might view as prudence. In fact, holding back now would be counter-productive and a de-motivating action to set upon the community at large.

As a senior, I have limited years left to enjoy this facility. My children and grandchildren will have a spectacular and much needed facility for many more years to come.

This beautiful area, with its great people and rich culture, needs to be promoted, not held back. If I need to increase my contribution to this project, so be it. We all have to do more.

A wise philosopher once said, "Life itself has no meaning. It is us who must give it meaning." No better example is right in front of us. Together, let's help raise the roof.
