In support of faith

Letter

Dear Editor

I would like to respond to Dan Froese's letter (Religion has no place in government, Regional Optimist, Feb. 11). He believes it is wrong for Premier Brad Wall to express his personal faith and the reason why he celebrates Christmas in public (I assume he is referring to the Christmas message in this paper).

I don't understand why Mr. Froese thinks that when a person is elected to public office he should lose his right of freedom of speech and religion. I suppose the premier could have used the new, watered-down "happy holidays" expression and wished us all peace and happiness.

But as Christians, we need to be reminded where this good news of peace and joy comes from. That it comes from God and proclaims salvation to the whole world through the birth of our saviour Jesus Christ. (John 3:16) It is the Christian mandate to spread this message to the whole world (Matt. 28:19) and not to be timid and silent when it is right and proper to speak.

Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the light. No one comes to the Father but by me." Only Christians have a living, all powerful leader, saviour and Lord, the creator of the universe and everything in it.
