Man goes missing

It is difficult to imagine the anguish of a family who has lost a loved one. That is the situation the family of Walter Giesbrecht is facing after he went missing in the Battlefords on the weekend.

It is difficult to imagine the anguish of a family who has lost a loved one.

That is the situation the family of Walter Giesbrecht is facing after he went missing in the Battlefords on the weekend.

Giesbrecht, 58, of Elrose was staying at a hotel on the Highway 16 Bypass. Early Sunday morning he went for a walk. Before venturing out he asked hotel staff about the Battleford walking bridges and the trails on Finlayson Island.

And then he disappeared.

When his family raised the alarm the local RCMP and the North Battleford Fire Department went into action, with the NBFD launching their boat to search the river. The RCMP conducted an extensive search of the shorelines and Finlayson Island, but as this paper goes to press, the man is still missing.

Our hearts go out to the family of this man and we urge anyone who may have seen him or who have any pertinent information to contact the Battlefords RCMP.
