When I moved to Tisdale last year, friends and family all had the same question: why?
Why Tisdale?
Well, at first it was simply because there was a job offer there in my field. Plus, I’d never been to Saskatchewan and wanted to spend some time living in the prairies.
Now, though, if someone asked me the same question, I’d have a very different answer.
I choose to live in Tisdale because it is a beautiful community. I love driving down Main Street in the evening, seeing the low street lights guiding visitors past our wealth of local businesses.
I choose to live in Tisdale because green spaces are moments away. The golf course, parks, wildlife sanctuary and proximity to skiing and hiking make this town a very attractive place to stay.
I choose to live in Tisdale because the people are engaged in activities that matter to them, and that passion makes for a positive living environment.
I choose to live in Tisdale because it’s opened my eyes to new experiences: riding in a combine, meeting a bear, surviving drift-covered highways and trying new foods like Saskatoon berries and cabbage rolls.
This is my last column for the Review. Writing may be my chosen career, but I don’t have the right words to say goodbye.
I’m headed back to Ontario for work, but Tisdale and Saskatchewan will always hold a place in my heart. When someone asks me, why Tisdale?, I’ll have so much more to tell them than I did one year ago.
