Too late for the nuptials

Dear Editor

I read, with interest, Laura Prescesky's recollections of St. Mary's Anglican Church at Lilac ("Warm memories of Lilac church, Regional Optimist, Dec. 19).

Laura does not recall any weddings. I have a vivid memory of a wedding.

My parents, sister and I were invited to the July 3, 1940 wedding of Ethel Christie and Leslie Johnston. (Ethel's parents, Alice Carter and Dave Christie, had been married in St. Mary's at Lilac on Oct. 30, 1911).

As we came around the curve to cross the railroad tracks at Lilac we had our first glimpse of the church.

Lo and behold! We saw the bride and groom on the steps having their picture taken!

Yep, you guessed it, we were too late! Dad, being Dad should have started earlier to drive the seven miles from Richard.

That was my first wedding invitation.
