When does the fun start?

Dear Editor

Last weekend I attended my son's initiation hockey practice at the Don Ross Arena. The two team,s Lightning and Blackhawks, were on the ice practicing when arguing and yelling could be heard from the hallway between two parents of a kid on the Blackhawks and a coach of another Initiation team that wasn't even practicing.

Everybody could hear these parents call the coaches down, saying they didn't know how to coach and didn't know what they are doing. Practices were a waste of their time and their son's time and so on and so fourth. This went on for a little while until they were asked to leave.

The parents who heard all this couldn't believe what just went on. These kids are four- five- and six-year-olds and are out to have a good time. Parents have discussed a few times one father's comments at a fun hockey game. He was telling other parents that his son would score all the goals and his son doesn't deserve to be playing with these kids and that his son is better then any kid on any initiation team.

This is the beginning to most kid's hockey experience and is supposed to be fun for them. It just amazes me how a couple parents can ruin a fun day.
