Korrie Ratt elected Sucker River band councillor in by-election

Korrie Ratt has been elected as the new Lac La Ronge Indian Band councillor for Sucker River, with 49 per cent voter turnout on Aug. 19.

LAC LA RONGE INDIAN BAND — A by-election held Aug. 19 elected Korrie Ratt as band councillor for Sucker River.

The vote saw 49 per cent turnout, according to the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.

The official results were:

  • Korrie Ratt — 69 votes (22 online, 47 in person), elected

  • Mary Veuillot — 54 votes (11 online, 43 in person)

  • Larry McKenzie — 30 votes (3 online, 27 in person)

LLRIB Chief Tammy Cook-Searson congratulated Ratt and thanked all candidates and voters in a social media post. Ratt will be replacing Devin Bernatchez, who resigned from the position in May 2025.

“On behalf of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band, I want to congratulate Korrie Ratt on being elected as the new band councillor for Sucker River,” said Cook-Searson.

“This is an exciting time for the community, and I look forward to working with Councillor Ratt in serving our members. I also want to sincerely thank Mary Veuillot and Larry McKenzie for stepping forward as candidates. Running for leadership takes courage and dedication, and your efforts are appreciated. Finally, I want to thank every member who cast a ballot — your voice makes our democracy strong.”

The Lac La Ronge Indian Band is the largest First Nation in Saskatchewan, with more than 12,600 members living on- and off-reserve across six communities.
