PRINCE ALBERT — The Prince Albert Police Service says it responded to multiple incidents at the Prince Albert Exhibition Sunday night resulting in arrests.
In one incident, a man was arrested following a hit-and-run near the exhibition grounds. At approximately 11 p.m. Sunday, police were dispatched to the area of 10th Avenue East near the entrance to the exhibition grounds for a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.
Officers located a nine-year-old male victim lying on the ground. He was treated by Parkland Ambulance for what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries and transported to hospital, say police.
The vehicle involved fled the scene prior to their arrival, say police, but shortly after, an officer observed a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle involved in the hit and run travelling westbound in 100 block of River Street West. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and the driver was arrested without further incident. As a result, the 24-year-old man has been charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident. He also received a ticket for driving without a license and the vehicle will be impounded for a month.
In another incident at the exhibition Sunday, officers arrested a man following an incident where bear spray was used. At around 11:45 p.m., officers were on a routine foot patrol at the Prince Albert exhibition when they were notified that a male had deployed bear spray at someone.
Officers located a male matching the suspect description who attempted to flee on foot. Police say a short foot pursuit ended when the suspect pointed the bear spray at one of the officers. The male continued to resist arrest, say police, but was successfully arrested moments later.
Parkland Ambulance also attended the scene and treated multiple people who were suffering from the effects of bear spray. As a result, the 15-year-old male has been charged with two counts of assaulting police, assault with a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon and resisting arrest.
