50 years ago Tramping Lake held their third annual Ice Carnival

50 years ago, work started on the extension to St. John's Anglican Church in Unity when part of the old parish hall was incorporated into church property and would become the chancel and sanctuary; sadly this church has now closed and the property is being sold.

Tramping Lake Figure Skating Club was preparing for their third annual Ice Carnival.

Unity Skating Club members who placed at the North Battleford Sectional Competitions were Edna Howdle, Lorilee Foster, Sherry Housen, Celeste Merkosky, Noreen Duchscher, Chester McCallum, Bonnie Housen and Bradley Wagner.

Five candidates for Wilkie Carnival Queen were announced: Adele Boucher, Carolyn Culbertson, Vivian Hoffart, Cindy Miller and Frances Weber.

Nathan Keller’s rink, representing St. George School in Wilkie, won the school division mixed championships.

It was reported 46 babies were born in Unity in 2002, up substantially from 21 the year before and also up from the four-year-average of 31.

Unity town council passed a bylaw designating the community centre and museum buildings as “smoke-free.”

Norman Carter School in Wilkie was running a pilot project with small groups of computers with Internet access placed into Grade 2, 3, 4 and 5 classrooms for student use.
