Wilkie’s Artificial Ice Society held a fundraising gala which saw a record crowd of 550 in the community centre for the evening.

A formal program marked the official opening and dedication in memory of the late Father Francis Wandler of an addition to St. Peter’s School in Unity.

Provost Livestock Exchange weekly auctions included a sale of weaner and feeder pigs every Friday.

Unity was a national runner-up in the Communities in Bloom competition, receiving four out of a possible five blooms, with the highest marks coming in tidiness and community involvement.

Wilkie declared a White Ribbon Against Pornography Week. McLurg High School students in the Christian ethics class helped distribute long white ribbons around town to be signed by residents. The ribbons would then be sent to MP Gerry Ritz along with a request for stronger laws to protect children.

Unity Composite High School Vanessa Huber, age 15, grew her hair for two years in order to be able to donate 11 inches to Locks of Love, a program that provides wigs to cancer patients.
