Ball teams heading into league and provincial playoff season

Unity, Wilkie and Macklin baseball and softball teams are ready for playoff season.

UNITY — Here is a quick overview of area ball teams as they head into league and provincial playoff season. Included will be coverage of these teams following their respective playoff events.

NSRBL – From the standings as of June 27, the Wilkie Brewers and Macklin Lakers will be in the league playoff rounds. The Unity Junior Cardinals will likely have to play a wild card game to earn a spot in the playoff pool. Wildcard games will begin July 7.

Unity Junior Cardinals are set to host best-of-three junior provincials July 23-24 for the 22U provincial championship.

Wilkie Brewers have not yet learned when and where their provincial events will take place, and Macklin will be hosting their provincial championships

Softball Sask provincials

U11 took place in Saskatoon June 24 to 26 with both Unity and Macklin competing, however it was a tough round robin as only top team from each pool advanced and with Unity and Macklin losing only one game each, to be eliminated.

U13 B girls will compete in Regina July 15 to 17. Unity 15 B girls will compete in Saskatoon July 8 to 10 in a tough 24-team round robin event. Unity U17 girls will compete in Swift Current July 22 to 24. Unity U19 BW provincials will be a two-team round robin event held in Unity July 9-10 against Battleford Bandits with winner advancing to Western Canadians in BC.

There will be several area UMB, LMB and KMB alumni players in women’s provincials being held in Saskatoon July 22 to 24.

Baseball Sask provincials

Unity will host 11U AA Tier 2 provincials July 15 to 17, with eight teams competing. Macklin U11 will join Wilkie in competing in Rosetown July 15-17 in an eight-team event in the AA, Tier 4 division.

Macklin will host the 13U AA, Tier 4 event July 22 to 24 with eight teams participating and will include Unity and Macklin teams.

15U Cardinals will play in Saskatoon July 15 to 17 in the AA, Tier 1 event with eight teams competing, while the Macklin Lakers will be in the 15UAA Tier 2 July 15 to 17 in Regina with 10 teams

U18 provincial details are still being finalized.
