Balloon making, berry picking and books part of summer 2022 at Wilkie Library

571 activity kits were offered at Wilkie Library this summer.

WILKIE — A busy schedule of summer programming was offered to children and families in Wilkie by the team at Wilkie Library.

A spokesperson for the Wilkie Library says, “571 activity kits were offered this summer with 320 of those kits funded by the Community Initiatives Fund. Patrons could either come into the library or for in-person programming or pick up the kits and complete them at home.”

Kits contained everything needed to complete a craft and patrons could keep what was made from the kit. Thirteen different themed kits totaling 320 were funded by CIF, while five other themed kits, totaling 115, were sponsored by Wheatland Regional Library.

Kit themes ranged from ocean water candles to pan flutes to keychains and other creative ventures.

Additionally, two of the most well-attended programs this summer offered by Wilkie Library included Balloon School with Larry the Balloon Man as well as u-pick saskatoon berries at Gerein’s. Five programs, including these two popular ones, were funded by local donations benefitting 136 participants. The other three programs as part of the donations were Father’s Day cards, nature walk and origami.

The library’s summer programming also included the TD summer reading club for ages 0-13, and the Wheatland Summer fun challenge for all ages. Library users could track their reading and complete activities on the Beanstack app to be entered to win some prizes.

Another program that ran throughout the summer was Notice Nature where participants came into the library to pick up bingo-style cards, complete the activities and return them to the library to collect prizes. This program continues until Oct. 31.

Staff at Wilkie Library say they are appreciative of the support for their summer programming and look forward to providing more programs in fall which will start with the return of in-person story time. The Wilkie Wheatland Library has a Facebook page to follow for all the latest updates and news.
