50 years ago

It was the inaugural year for the Unity Warriors, a tackle football team of high school players, competing against Wilkie, Kindersley and Meadow Lake.

Dr. W.B. Hoover offered elementary and advanced bridge classes, as part of the Unity adult education offerings.

Playing at the Twilite Drive-In in Unity were American Graffiti and Night of the Strangler.

Unity New Horizons received their largest donation to date, $1,500 from the Lions Club presented by Bob Sword and John Savostianik.

From the classifieds: “For Sale – Peugot 10 speed Touring Bike, 1973 model like new only 300 miles, with touring equipment … asking $150.”

From the classifieds: “For Sale – Purebred Dalmation Pups, 6 weeks old, Male $50 and Female $35. Ideal Hunting Dogs.”

20 years ago

After research and financial planning, Wilkie Golf Club confirmed they would have grass greens (replacing the old sand greens) as early as the next summer.

Rick Bachman, former Outlaw sniper, was taking over coaching duties for the Senior Wilkie Outlaws.

In its second year, the Fun Day of Golf raised $26,000 for the Unity Seniors’ Lodge project.

Former Denzil resident Gwen Klotz was heading to Lisbon, Portugal, to run the Arthritis Society’s Joints in Motion marathon in honour of her mother.

Between the community run and all three schools, Unity was able to raise over $1,500 for the Terry Fox foundation.

With the NHL locking out their players for the 2004-05 season, the Unity Legion was losing one of their prime fundraisers – the regular and playoff hockey drafts.
