20 years ago

The Tako Snow Plow Club officially shut down and Roy Greenwald, on their behalf, presented their remaining funds of $328 to Vern Schaab, chairman of the Seniors’ Lodge Project.

Russ Nielsen and Patrick Cey of Wilkie, and Scott Hennings and Scott Brownlee of Unity, were each selected by a Western Hockey League team in the WHL bantam draft.

The Unity Miners held their awards night and import Martin Smith was named MVP as well as Top Scorer. Pat Sperle won the Fan’s Choice Award and player-coach Bruce Yockey was recognized as the Most Dedicated Player. Yockey was also voted as Coach of the Year by the league.

Jennifer Sittler, daughter of Bill and Patty, won a Centennial Merit Scholarship at a scholarship ceremony at SIAST Kelsey Campus, Saskatoon.

50 years ago

Frank Herback of Unity was re-elected president of the Northern Saskatchewan Baseball League. John Luckey of North Battleford was vice-president and Stan Kolojay of Unity, secretary.

Luseland’s Randy Bell first arrived in Canada in the spring of 1908. Sixty-four years later, in May of 1974, he received his citizenship papers from Ottawa.
