Book it to the library, Kerrobert, Luseland, Unity and Wilkie summer programs ready

Libraries are good for circulation and they are never overbooked. Kerrobert, Luseland, Unity and Wilkie have plenty of ways to bust boredom this summer.

UNITY — School is out and it isn’t long before kids may be lamenting “I’m bored.” There is more to check out at your community library than just books.

Desirae Munro, branch manager for Wheatland Regional Library says your community library is ready to help bust boredom. In addition to summer reading programs, your local library is offering day camps, interactive nature connection activities, valuable life skills sessions and even visits by the Saskatchewan Science Centre.

Unity and Wilkie libraries are part of two summer reading programs for all Wheatland Regional Library patrons. The national TD Summer Reading Club is for anyone aged 0-12 years old and also offered is the Wheatland Reading Cup Challenge. In addition to the grand prize draws for anyone participating at the individual level in these programs, Wheatland sent out a region-wide challenge to all of the community libraries and 26 library branches have set community reading goals in the competition to be named the 2023 Wheatland Reading Cup Champions.

Kerrobert, Luseland and Wilkie have created a great selection of take-and-make kits and in-branch programs, in addition to what is offered by Wheatland Regional Library.

The Wheatland Regional Library offers many programming supports throughout the year to supplement the programs and services offered at the local library including visiting programs from the central office, take-and-make kits, and makerspace kits/programs that branches can request.”

Did you know you can use your Saskatchewan library card to borrow a free regional park pass, valid for seven-day loan periods from May 18 to Sept. 15?

Another popular library offering in summer includes the Wheatland Storybook Trails, which gained popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic as an opportunity for readers in the community to enjoy stories while maintaining social distancing. Post-pandemic, the stories continue to offer these opportunities to the community and are hosted by the local library branches. The schedule for each story can be found at wheatland.sk.ca/WRLStorybookTrail. Unity and Kerrobert currently have storybook trails set up in their communities and have been receiving great reviews.

Your local library keeps residents informed through their Facebook pages. Look them up for what is upcoming from your community library. Unity is promoting the Notice Nature activity and activity passports can be picked up at the Unity library location to get out and explore.

Your community library is more than just books. Wilkie Wheatland Library is offering life skills sessions upcoming in August that feature automobile maintenance, home economics, first aid and stress management.

Luseland Library is hosting a young wizards’ camp in August that includes storytelling, arts and crafts, magic workshops and a magic show. Kerrobert will also hold a young wizards’ day camp in August.

The Saskatchewan Science Centre is once again travelling to communities this summer. Kerrobert is set for a climate action, coding and technology session in August. This event was well received in Unity in 2022.
