Wilkie's Isaiah Mamer will be part of Team Saskatchewan at the games being held in Niagara,

WILKIE — 2022 has been a great year for recent McLurg graduate, Isaiah Mamer.

He was part of the McLurg Broncs SHSAA provincial gold medal for volleyball, he won medals at SHSAA provincial track and field, he was signed by the University of Saskatchewan Huskies men’s volleyball team and he is preparing for his role on Team Saskatchewan volleyball competing at 2022 Canada Games upcoming in Niagara, Ont.

“We will be competing at the Canada Cup in Calgary. This tournament will be a great opportunity for us to compete with other provinces and territories and tune up before the Canada Summer Games,” says Mamer.

Mamer says the team will be leaving for the games Aug. 14. “

“We have one practice day (Aug. 15), and competition starts Aug. 16 against Team Alberta. We are in a pool of four including us, Alberta, B.C. and New Brunswick. The format of the tournament is one, best-of-five set, match a day. There is pool play and then into the playoffs we go.”

Mamer’s parents will be driving the long distance to support him and Team Saskatchewan at the event.

“I have never been to Niagara before, so I am super excited to go and experience the venues and the games as a whole,” says Mamer.

Following the games, Mamer will have some down time before beginning training with the U of S volleyball team. He has committed to assist with volleyball camp in Wilkie taking place the week right after the games, which will give players an excellent experience from Mamer’s talent, skill, and volleyball knowledge.

“I am super excited to go and compete/enjoy the biggest multi sport tournament in Canada. Besides being excited, I am looking forward to enjoying the experience, making memories, and to represent Team Saskatchewan”
