The Unity and District Chamber of Commerce held their annual general meeting Jan. 24. The election of officers saw Kelsey Sperle, of Kelsey Sperle Health & Safety by design, elected to the position of president.

Marcella Adams (Compass Minerals) will continue as secretary while Carolyn Kopp (CKopp Design Shop) continues to fulfil the treasurer’s role.

The vice-president position continues to be vacant. If any business people in Unity and area are interested in becoming more involved in their local chamber of commerce, please do reach out to the present executive or past president Helena Long for more information.

Plans were made to increase the chamber’s social media presence on Facebook and Instagram, and to continue pursuing the creation of new “Welcome to Unity” maps and increasing their accessibility for visitors and the general public. Discussions were also held regarding allowing businesses that are chamber members to highlight their locations on the map.

Continuing projects include the maintenance of the sign corridors on Highway 14, Canada Day celebrations and Santa Day.

The chamber’s biggest event, Celebrate Unity, will be held Monday, March 4, with cover band Velvet Hand performing. Tickets will be on sale to the general public soon – watch for advertisements in this paper, on posters and on social media for further details.

The next meeting of the Unity and District Chamber of Commerce will be held Feb. 28 at 12 noon. This meeting, like the AGM, will be a hybrid meeting with the opportunity for business owners and managers to attend online or in person at the Delta Co-op board room.
