Deep down, Wilkie swimming pool fundraising needs help

Wilkie's existing swimming pool is nearing the end of its lifespan so the community's fundraising efforts for a new pool are more important than ever

WILKIE ‑ “The fundraising for a new pool in Wilkie has been difficult,” says Recreation Director Lori Fenrich.

Restrictions and health safety rules over the past two years have caused events and activities to be cancelled, a source of frustration for those behind the cause.

“Now we seem to be opening up and hoping that we are on the downside,” Fenrich notes.

The Wilkie Recreation Board, which has new members, along with town council have been working to organize events to bring more dollars to the fund to bring efforts closer to building a new pool.

“The cost of a new pool is in the range approximately two million plus dollars,” Fenrich says.

While the total is challenging, she says it can be reached by working together.

There is a major concert coming in June with more details to be released shortly. Right now, the board is running a COVID Valentine’s fundraiser called “Spread Some Love.” The cost is $10 and three lucky couples will enjoy Valentine's dinners in Wilkie, with draws on Feb. 11, 18 and 25. Tickets can be purchased at the town office, from Sharisse at 306-441-8174 or any member of the board.
