First fall car show for Wilkie draws a crowd

The police car from the fictional television series "Corner Gas" was just one of the attractions at the 48 vehicle entry for the Wilkie Show and Shine event held on Sept. 18

WILKIE - The car show gods smiled on the Wilkie Show n Shine Committee on Sept. 18 as the beautiful day resulted in 48 cars coming from as far as Eatonia and Eston to enjoy the first annual Wilkie Show n Show.

Entertainment for the event was performed by Jon Sloan & friends, as well as Dan Wilgenbusch and friend, who entertained the crowd during the day. Between the car show and entertainment, organizers were happy to have a steady flow of attendees throughout the day

Organizers say those who brought their vehicles for display enjoyed this opportunity, with some even happier as they picked up some prizes.

The police car from Dog River, the fictional town setting for the television series “Corner Gas,” was one of the vehicles on display and seemed to attract some selfie opportunities. The car is owned by Wilkie residents, Stuart and Jenny Nicholson,

The big winner of the day was Lou Bartley, who took home the $300 50/50 jackpot.

This committee looks forward to taking a break before getting back at it to plan for next year, with the aim to have this event earlier in the summer.

Proceeds from registration and confectionary sales were split between the Wilkie Museum and the Wilkie Food Bank, with $150 going to each.

This event was one of three held on Sept. 18 in Wilkie, which also included the Super-Volley junior volleyball tournament at SaskCan arena, and the Pegasus Project STARS fundraiser held at Country Ford.
