Family Day fun in Wilkie enjoyed by many

March 13 provided lots of fun outdoor and indoor activities for Wilkie residents in a planned family fun day

WILKIE — The day was sunny, the snow was perfect and the more than 100 kids, parents and grandparents who came for the Family Day celebration were enjoying the activities planned by the Wilkie Recreation Board.

Recreation Director Lori Fenrich said she was pleased with the turnout and added that everyone was enjoying being together and outside without gale force winds. Members of the recreation board were on hand, helping with building snowmen and helping kids head up the snow hills on the west side of the Saskcan Community Centre parking lot.

The hot chocolate along with the hot dogs were definite hits after playing in the snow.

The public works department built the snow hills, in assorted sizes, for sledding fun. They cleared out areas for people to sit on hay bales around the bonfire.

The crew also prepared different areas for the snowmen to be built. The snowmen ranged from small to large, with those building them adding their own touches, including carrot noses and small rocks for eyes.

Fenrich said that because of what had happened the past two years, the annual Farmers' Days had to be cancelled and the recreation department and board wanted to give people the opportunity to get together on a winter day enjoying each other’s company. Fenrich is optimistic there will be a Farmers Days next year.
