High School track and field athletes qualify for SHSAA provincials

Thirty-eight athletes from Luseland, Wilkie and Unity will advance to provincial track and field the first weekend in June in Regina.

NORTH BATTLEFORD — The Battle West District track and field competition was held May 25-27 in North Battleford, giving students an opportunity to compete for their school as well as earn a berth at the upcoming Sask. High School Athletics Association provincial track and field meet June 3-4 in Regina.

Battle West representative and McLurg High School principalGreg Mamer, says “We have had our district track in NB since amalgamation and Battle West came into existence in 2007. It is central and the only rubber surface track in our district. There were approximately 500 athletes in 13 events (x 10 different age and gender categories).”

Kerrobert, Luseland, Unity and Wilkie school track and field athletes competed.

Luseland School saw a number of district success stories. Students Addy and Destiny have advanced to provincial track and field. Addy will compete in shot put and triple jump while Destiny will be competing in shot put and discus events.

McLurg High School will send 23 athletes to SHSAA provincial track and field competition, which is believed to be the largest school athlete contingent to qualify.

UCHS has 13 athletes that have qualified for SHSAA provincial track and field.

In Battle West District, high point winners from UCHS included Casey Lewin gold in pee wee girls’ division. Ethan Stifter earned a silver in intermediate boys' division with Camara Brown earning gold in the junior girls' division.

Garrett Brebner - 800m and 1500 m

Halle Ducherer - javelin and 4 x 100m relay
