Kin Club opens workshop for volunteer elves

Santa's Hut will be open during this year's Winter Wonderland, however need crafty volunteers to fulfill needs.

UNITY — Unity’s Kin Club is already gearing up for the holidays. The group has organized a variety of craft night workshops for volunteers within the community to help create items for the upcoming Winter Wonderland, where the Kin Club have decided to have Santa’s Hut open to youngsters.

The craft night workshops for those who are crafty to come and brainstorm ideas to use donated supplies, or collect items to be used and work on the projects at home. Crafting had started back in the spring, to help relieve crafters of the time constraints of getting the projects done. Currently, organizer Jodi Mack has planned some themed evenings, including the next night being wood, but other craft mediums can be done. Some of the projects that have been done or are being worked on include Christmas ornaments, key-chains, games, jewelry, coasters/placemats, bath salts/sugar scrubs plus many more. She also adds that dates for craft nights are not set in stone, so most advertising is online. Anyone interested in joining in on the fun, but not connected online, can contact Jodi at 306- 210-8283.

Once the creation process is done, the items are a part of the Kin Club’s contribution to the annual Winter Wonderland Santa’s Hut, which will be held Dec. 7.

Santa’s Hut is a place where kids can purchase Christmas gifts by themselves. For $2, children can enter the Nutrien Ag Solutions building, and with the help of a Kin member, select a gift and walk out with a gift-wrapped parcel to give to their loved one.

“We averaged about five to seven people for the three craft nights I have hosted so far,” Mack adds.

“Some people just pick up supplies and will make at home. A lot of brainstorming is occurring.”

A donation bin is available at Nutrien Ag Solutions. Mack says that they are always willing to take supplies including, yarn, fabric, small jars, gift wrap or bags, epsom salts and rice, bottle openers, hooks, wood pieces and any general craft supplies. All supplies and crafters are always welcomed.
