Livestock recovery trailer part of new equipment for UFD

Unity Fire Department provides their year in review as they recognize annual Fire Prevention Week Oct. 2 - 9

UNITY - The Unity Volunteer Fire Department responded to 62 calls to date. This included 38 grass fires, five STARS Air Ambulance assists, seven motor vehicle collisions and 12 false alarms.

Fire Chief, Dwaine Kopp, tells the Press-Herald, “Something new this year for UFD is a livestock recovery trailer. This trailer is available for Unity and surrounding departments for use in any accident involving livestock. This trailer was supplied by Sask. Pork and their logo is included on the trailer. It contains all types of livestock handling equipment and was recently used in a livestock trailer rollover near Neilburg.”

Unity Fire Department is very thankful for the donations received this past year which include: an anonymous donation for $900; one for $165 from Donors Choice; and UCHS donated $200. Plains Midstream donated a 2015 3/4 ton truck to be used as a wild land unit, as well as $2,400 to go toward,s extra gear.

UFD continues to seek new members to help fill their roles as your community’s protective services, fire fighting division. The squad had several retirements this year including former Fire Chief, Leroy Timmermans, and members Russell Fauth and Blair May.
