UNITY — Colbey Frocklage has been passionate about vehicles and “making them look as nice as possible” since the age of 16. That passion has been funnelled into becoming a young entrepreneur with his own business, Frocklage Detailing & Property Services.
Frocklage, a 2022 Unity Composite High School graduate, tried other part-time jobs while in high school, but it was detailing cars that brought him the most satisfaction. Even when playing hockey in Saskatoon, he found a part-time detailing job at a body shop.
When Frocklage, the son of Dwayne and Abby, returned to Unity, he worked at Unity Motor Products and saved his money until he could buy a truck and start his own business full-time.
Frocklage went full-time in the vehicle detailing business with Frocklage Detailing on April 1, 2023. He told the Unity & District Chamber of Commerce new business welcoming committee earlier this spring that it was his “passion and what I love to do. I am working harder than ever now to grow it [the business].”
Part of that growth has included the purchase of equipment from the former Edge Window Washing business to add making homes and windows also “look as nice as possible” to his list of services.
The system he purchased allows Frocklage to wash windows of a building as tall as four storeys. An expandable water-fed pole system extends high enough that a window washer can remain on the ground and still clean upper-level windows.
Another service Frocklage Detailing & Property Services offers is automobile window tinting. Although many who want tinted windows do so for looks, Frocklage explained there are other advantages to tinted windows.
He said the film is easy to see out of and reduces the glare in a driver’s face. Tinted windows also help reject heat and improve the shatter resistance of the glass. There are different degrees of opaqueness available, as low as five per cent up to a legal maximum of 35 per cent on a windshield.
Frocklage’s sister has helped him out with the detailing work now and again and continues to do so, but Frocklage Detailing & Property Services was excited to announce this year they have officially hired their first employee. High school student Caden McDonald will be working evenings and weekends for now, and then will be full-time as soon as school is out for the summer.
Frocklage said, “I’ve been working by myself for two years. I’m excited to work with [Caden].”
Detailing services offered by Frocklage Detailing & Property Services extend beyond cars and trucks to include semis, side-by-sides, ATVs, agricultural equipment and boats. Both the window washing and detailing services are fully mobile, allowing the business to serve customers who are unable or prefer not to bring their vehicles or equipment to the Unity shop at 217 1st Avenue East.
Frocklage Detailing & Property Services offers vehicle detailing, window tinting and residential and commercial window washing throughout west-central Saskatchewan. Owner Colbey Frocklage encourages customers to book appointments through the company’s website at frocklagedetails.com.
The business also shares before-and-after photos, videos and educational content on its Facebook page. In one post, the benefits of boat waxing were highlighted, noting it "removes oxidation, improves gloss and protects your boat for the season from the sun," while also helping to prevent long-term damage from dirt and grime.
The Unity and District Chamber of Commerce has officially welcomed Frocklage and his growing business to the local business community.
