Local University athletes compete at Can-West Cross-Country championship

UCHS and McLurg graduates now part of University sports

WILKIE, UNITY - McLurg graduate, now University of Saskatchewan track athlete, and Reece Gilbert, 2021 Unity Composite High School graduate and now University of Regina track team member, competed at the Oct. 30 Can-West conference cross-country event held in Saskatoon.

Pernitsky and Reece Gilbert have long been part of cross-country athletics having both had successful seasons under the Saskatchewan High School Athletics Association competitions.

Pernitsky placed 20th behind U of S track teammate, Anthony Antaya, and earned a personal best improving his time by 1.5 minutes. He will now head to national competition in Quebec City hosted by the Laval University Nov. 20.

Gilbert placed 74th ahead of U of R teammate, Jesse McCabe, after making the team this fall. Depending on his class schedule, Gilbert may compete at cross-country age class nationals in Ottawa at the end of November. He is also training with the Regina Triathlon team this year.
