LUSELAND — It’s been an interesting few weeks weather wise for our public works crew. We’ve went through intense lows and highs, which have made street cleaning and maintenance challenging. Town Foreman Jason Englot has been using serrated ice blades on the grader to help chew up some of the ice resulting from the mild weather and rain we’ve been receiving. This seems to be helping keep our streets more passable without creating all of the slush that using strictly salt can create.
The Luseland Fire Department has recently had a leadership change and has appointed Matt Siwak to the position of deputy fire chief. Matt has been on the department since September of 2018 and also owns and operates Daisy’s Corner Store with wife Kayla Constantinoff. The couple are also the managers of the Luseland Community Motel. Congratulations, Matt, on the promotion.
Feb. 9, the Luseland Brownies did a tour of local businesses with the particular focus of visiting “women in business.” They stopped and visited Kayla Constantinoff at Daisy’s Corner Store, Christena Laturnus owner of the Spa on Grande and a visit at the town of Luseland office with myself, Mayor Kathy Wurz and Assistant Administrator Virginia Brice. It was a great visit and an opportunity to explain to the young girls a little about municipal governance and what we do on town council. Before the girls left, we had them sit at our board room table as if they were members of council and asked what would be some things they would do or like to see that would make the town a better place to live. Some of the answers and replies were absolutely priceless. My favourite answer of the evening was from Autumn Siwak, who informed me her first act as mayor would be to abolish electronics from town and only allow people to read. Possibly a future leader in Luseland?
The town of Luseland is currently inviting applications for swimming pool manager, swim instructors and lifeguards for the 2022 pool season.
The Luseland New Pool Committee is once again selling tickets for a Trip of the Month fundraiser. Proceeds go towards paying off the remainder owing on the new swimming pool can be purchased by e-transfer to luselandtripofthemonth@gmail.com.
Luseland Minor Hockey is having a 50/50 cash raffle fundraiser. Tickets can be purchased through an online link which can be found on the town of Luseland Facebook page.
