McLurg and UCHS will represent at provincial all-star basketball event

Five high school basketball players from McLurg and Unity Composite High School were selected for the Basketball Sask. Senior Classic being held in Saskatoon April 1-2.

UNITY - An exciting basketball season isn’t over just yet for high school basketball players from McLurg and Unity Composite High School.

Basketball Saskatchewan annual Basketball Sask. Senior Classic is being held April 1-2 weekend and will include players from Wilkie and Unity.

Thomas Snell will be the lone male representative from UCHS boys. The girl’s side will be represented by UCHS players Dailyn Wagner and Kierra Bosch, while Wilkie will be represented by Ava Sittler and Dahlia Rafid-Hamed.

McLurg coach, Mark Myszczyszyn has also been asked to be a coach for the weekend event, and says he is thrilled.

Myszczyszyn says that Cheyanne Thiessen was also selected from Kindersley and is friends from everyone playing ball with the Unity Panthers for several years.

Teams for the basketball all-star event are make up from the top senior high school basketball players from 1A-5A in the province. Players are nominated, then chosen by recommendations of coaches, statistics, and their play throughout basketball season.

April 2, the 1A-3A categories will take place for Unity and Wilkie players. Tip off for girl’s all-stars is 5 p.m. and the boy’s is at 7 p.m., both events taking place at Aden Bowmen Collegiate in Saskatoon. Teams check in earlier in the day for practice and team photos and spectators are welcome from 430 on with teams on the court at 4:40 for warmups. Awards and three-point competition follows each game.
