Monthly Mayor's report from Luseland

The Town of Luseland has been busy for the past couple of weeks says Mayor Wurz

LUSELAND - On Tuesday, Aug. 3, following the long weekend, United Paving arrived to begin patch paving throughout the town. They completed our patch repairs the first week of August and have a companion company returning to pave driveways for those residents who have requested a quote. At the end of July, Agora Construction of Luseland SK. also began to rip off the siding from our mall in downtown Luseland. Colin Leinenweber of Agora Construction is currently doing the millwork and will be making unique storefronts for each business in the mall. He will also be installing new siding. The Town of Luseland is very excited to see this project come to fruition and hopes that by revitalizing this downtown space we will create much visual appeal and warmth to the downtown core.

The Luseland Economic Development Committee is having a fall fair on Sept 11. The committee has met several times and reached out to local businesses and organizations to host events and activities. The committee will be putting out more information soon about the types of fun games, entertainment and food options for the local fair. Stay tuned.

The Luseland Credit Union Swimming Pool has had a successful season so far. They have offered three sets of swimming lessons and many private lessons. The last set of lessons will be done on Aug. 19. Friday the 13th , the pool hosted the “Night at The Pool” showing a movie that was open to all ages and was followed by a midnight swim from 10 to midnight for students Grade 9 and up. Earlier that day, the pool hosted a diving clinic.

The Town of Luseland entered an agreement with the R.M. of Progress to allow them use and access to our landfill. The R.M. of Progress will now have their Loraas waste containers located at our municipal landfill and share in the operating expenses. We are happy to continue building our relationship with our neighbouring municipalities, as it is crucial that we must consider partnerships to maintain service levels amongst our small population base.

Town council has set a date for a public meeting on Oct. 19. We had to stop this practice due to COVID last year but feel it will be good to start them again. This gives our citizens an opportunity to meet all of council, receive updates on current projects and long-term plans and to have a question and answer session. We feel that this valuable dialogue is essential and welcome feedback from the community.

Gold Standard Engineering is currently working on data collection to assist the town in an asset management plan. They are currently condition rating our buildings and equipment. In July, we also had an assessment done of our sidewalks. Once we have all of this information compiled and understand the condition and remaining useful life of our assets, we can better plan for the renewal and replacement of infrastructure.

We remind everyone, once again, that the Town of Luseland is co-hosting an MS Bike Ride with the Flahr family on Sept.18. We encourage people to visit the Flahr’s with Flair Gear up to end MS Facebook page and donate to this worthy cause. The Luseland Credit Union has also partnered with the event and will be providing a finish line barbecue over lunch that day, with proceeds going to the cause. The team plans to cross the finish line between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. Please come cheer them on.
