NSRBL creates all-star team to compete at AA men's Western Canadians

Top players from four NSRBL teams will compete on one team in the senior men's AA Western Canadian Baseball Championship.

NORTH BATTLEFORD — Wilkie Brewers and Standard Hill Lakers are still competing for an NSRBL title. However, some of their players will also end off their baseball season Aug. 19 to 21 at a senior men’s Western Canadians AA championship in Saskatoon.

Brewers Rob Cey says, “Usually Westerns is limited to Tier 1 teams. This year some of the participants from other provinces opted out so they asked coaches of the AA Tier 2 teams if they would be interested in competing.”

Kyle Gregoire of the North Battleford Beavers, one of the teams in the NSRBL, offered to assemble a team for the competition. Players were selected from other NSRBL teams that were at 2022 Tier 2 provincials that included Wilkie, Kindersley, North Battleford and Standard Hill, with the official team name being the NSRBL Beavers.

From the Brewers, the all-star team would include players Tanner Huber, Rick Cey, Rob Cey, Mike Sittler and Braden Poleris. Players from Kindersley include JD Knutson, Austin Jamieson, Blake Robertson (Unity) and Kyle Donaldson, who also played for Unity. Standard Hill players will be Maeson Anderson, Brock Harrison, who has Wilkie and Battleford connections, and Joe Serna. The roster is rounded off with North Battleford players Kyle Gregoire, Connor Neave, Kyle Palmer, Bryce Gatzke, Gavin Nolin, Andre Hudec, Bob Hudec, Mike Ross and Jared Schmidt,

Teams competing at the Western Canadian senior men’s event will include Brandon, Regina Trappers, Saskatoon Outlaws and the NSRBL Beavers. Games will take place at Cairns Field in Saskatoon and begin on Aug 19 at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Games continue into Saturday with the top two teams competing at 7 p.m.

Gregorie says “We are league rivals, playing as teammates. I think like any guys who love to play baseball, want to play at highest level possible in a unique opportunity to come together and give us a chance to see how our league faces off against other good ball teams.”
