Petition to save Wilkie ER gains support

Residents of Wilkie have rallied to gain support for the reinstatement of their ER at the Wilkie Health Centre, and now have more than 400 signatures on a petition

WILKIE - More than 400 have signed a petition to have the emergency room reopened at Wilkie Health Centre.

" … the people, not only of Wilkie but surrounding communities, [are] showing the ER has to be open," says Mayor David Ziegler.

Ziegler points out that an increase in population, including younger families and children, means the ER is vital when medical expertise is needed quickly. Lack of emergency services is also a source of stress for older residents, he adds.

The Wilkie Medical Clinic is now served by Dr. Kemp and Dr. Nermin Matta. Ziegler says their expertise along with the equipment in place needs to be put to use to help sick and injured citizens.

Copies of the petition are located at Wilkie Reddi Mart, Wilkie Pharmacy, Wilkie Medical Clinic (Dr. Kemp’s office) and the Town of Wilkie office. The petition will be picked up Oct. 14.

Cut Knife-Turtleford MLA Ryan Domotor will be presenting the petition Oct. 27 to Minister of Health Paul Merriman, Premier Scott Moe and the Sask. Party Caucus.

“Working together we can and will make this happen,” Ziegler says.
