Retirement social honours Wilkie's Dr. Kemp

An evening of mixed emotions as Wilkie residents attend a social to honour Dr. Kemp on his retirement and thank him for his many years of service in the community.

WILKIE— Wilkie’s longest serving doctor was honoured with retirement social Dec. 8. It was an evening of mixed emotions as the town of Wilkie invited residents to honour and celebrate Dr. David Kemp on his retirement, which is effective Dec. 16.

There were approximately 120 in attendance. Prairie Sky Recovery Centre and the Wilkie and District Health Foundation representatives said a few words before presenting Dr. Kemp with a token of their appreciation for his work. Prairie Branches also included their words of appreciation for Dr. Kemp’s service.

In a social media post following the event, Prairie Sky Recovery said, “We were lucky to have such a great doctor to help us here at Prairie Sky. He always showed respect, empathy and compassion to our clients. Thank you for helping so many on their path to recovery.”

An engraved clock was presented to Dr. Kemp on behalf of PSR.

Mayor David Ziegler spoke on behalf of the town and presented Dr. Kemp with a Meritorious Service Award in recognition of his dedication and commitment to the residents of Wilkie and surrounding district. The mayor also presented Dr. Kemp with a small gift on behalf of the town as their appreciation for his years of service in the community. Flowers were also sent home with Dr. Kemp for his wife, Astrid, who was unable to attend, showing their appreciation for all the support she has given Dr. Kemp over the years he served in Wilkie.

Dr. Kemp made his away amongst guests in attendance, conversing about his years as well as extending appreciation for the support while in Wilkie and thanking them for attending his retirement social. He was able to pose for a photo with the last baby he delivered at Wilkie Hospital, Kayla Nestman.
