SODC student cast in the upcoming Nutcracker performance

The upcoming Nutcracker performance in December by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet will feature a dance student from Unity.

UNITY — Stand Out Dance Collective was quick to share the good news of student, Polina Chernii, who was selected for the upcoming performance of the Nutcracker in Saskatoon.

Polina is the 11-year-old daughter of Tetyana Stolyarchuk and Alex Chernii. The dance student attended an open call for auditions for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s production, attending on Sept. 10. The RWB cast 42 dancers out of the more than 115 dancers who auditioned for a role that day.

Polina will attend several practices, as well as stage and dress rehearsals over the next few months in Saskatoon before being part of the performance on Dec. 15 and 16 at TCU Place in Saskatoon. She has been cast in the role of an angel.

The SODC instructors for this student are Miss Courtney Smith and Miss Shelby Martin, with other class instructors for other genres being Cori Udell and Myah Strueby.

“To have a student achieve such a prestigious accomplishment at such a young age is such an incredible feeling,” studio owner and instructor, Smith, says.

“SODC is so incredibly proud of Polina and we cannot wait to support and cheer her on through this amazing experience. In the studio, Polina always works extremely hard in class and on the weekends. She is constantly looking to improve her skills as a dancer and is so deserving of an opportunity as wonderful as this.”
