Unity Mayor provides update on concerns raised with new bypass

Just eight months into use of the new Highway #14 & #21 bypass around Unity, some of the concerns brought up by users have been addressed.

UNITY — Almost as soon as the Highway 14 and 21 bypass opened around Unity in September of 2022, concerns were raised about aspects of the new road.

The need to include some lighting was evident.

“Sask. Power is working south of town, and we are hopeful they are working their way to Unity,” Mayor Sharon Del Frari says.

Signage was another concern.

“Highways has stated the street-sign sized ‘Unity’ sign pointing to the access road off the reroute is the standard and will not be changed,” Del Frari.

“We would like to see a flashing red light at the junction with Highway 14 and we will discuss how the reroute lines up with Highway 21 south.”

The mayor also said town crews thawed the culvert where their drainage runs to the creek to alleviate problems in that area.

In the early days of the bypass opening, it was soon recognized the speed needed to be reduced and that was handled in a timely manner.
